Furloughed Employees – Are They Really Ever Off?

thedailyupdate-small2I came across this article the other day in the NY Times titled “On a Furlough, but Never Leaving the Cubicle” that lays out a lot of the frustration many workers feel right now about having to take time off with no pay. It appears many people are not getting the pay as promised but also not being able to take the time off due to being short staffed. Out of loyalty to their employer, fear of losing their job, and feeling guilty about strapping their co-workers with extra workload, many employees are just working whether they are getting paid or not. In this economic climate, the ‘consider yourself lucky to have a job right now’ attitude is starting to wear thin.
